A 10-year-old cannot write code. Today they can still make a game, a birthday invite, a video script. Months of classes is the old path.
The rule is one sentence: the child says what they want, the parent stays, the account is the parent's.
Part 1
Why now
Vibe coding. The child does not write code. They say they want a game where a cat jumps. Claude Code makes a file you open in the browser and play.
Vibe content. Same sit-down, different file. They say make a birthday invite. Or a 30-second script they will film on a phone today. Or a comic. There is a file the same day.
If they only ask a chatbot for the homework answer, they are consuming. If they say make this, and they see a file, they are directing. That is the skill.
Part 2
How to start
No paid Claude plan at home? Skip Claude Code. Open Scratch. Scratch is MIT's free site for ages 8 to 16. Kids do not write code. They snap colored blocks and make a game or an animation. The URL is scratch.mit.edu.
If the parent already has Claude Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise, vibe coding is Claude Code. The parent installs it before the child sits down. Official page: code.claude.com/docs/en/quickstart.
Step 1Empty folder, one idea
The parent opens an empty folder and types claude in the terminal. The child says one sentence. Not an app. One small thing you can open the same day.
Claude Code asks before it changes a file. You click yes. Leave it that way. Do not turn on auto with a kid.
The parent pastes. The child fills the brackets.

Part 3
Education sources that exist
Anthropic does not make Claude for kids. I am not writing a syllabus in their name. What follows is what exists, named, with a URL.
01 Claude is 18+
Claude.ai is 18+. Getting started says: "You must be at least 18 years old to use our services." Consumer terms: at least 18, or higher if the local consent age is higher. Policy: "Claude.ai, our consumer product, is not offered to users under 18."
Why. Younger users face different risks. Accounts confirmed as minors get disabled. The age-assurance page says the same thing.
Claude for Teachers is for verified US K-12 educators. Free if they sign up by 30 June 2027. Their line: "for educators only, consistent with Claude's 18-and-over policy."
I am mentioning it so a parent who is a teacher knows. You do not tell a 10-year-old to use it.
03 Claude for Education is universities
anthropic.com/education is higher education. Universities, colleges, faculty, research. It is not a K-12 kids product. Same page has a line for K-12 teachers: Claude for Teachers is built for them.
04 Scratch: the free path built for kids
Scratch
What it is for. Scratch is MIT's free website. Kids do not write code. They snap colored blocks and make a game, a story, or an animation. Ages 8 to 16. This is the free path if there is no paid Claude plan.
